my ankles are sad

So I guess running around on concrete having to change directions constantly and quickly has made my ankles verrry sore. The bottom of my feet too, but I'll chalk that up to wearing 500 year old shoes with no support. (I still love ball hockey though).

For a non-game weekend I have a fuck-ton of shit to do. BBQ on Friday,  first junior derby game on Saturday (followed by the Empress with Lynch and Jay, I'm gonna get messy drunk!), Sunday we are having a travel team get together and I have to rush home in time for TRUE BLOOD. Somewhere in there T and I have to go to ball hockey stick city (Canadian Tire) and I have to get my taxes done (I KNOW!! It's June!).

Next Monday is our last practice of the season!! Holy moly, FINALLY. Bah ha. I am very ready for the break, I'm not going to do anything derby related for a long time, probably a week or so. I might be broken anyway after we get annihilated by Rat City on July 3rd. EEEEEEP.

I start my drawing class on July 5th. I have a feeling it's going to be disheartening.

Slacking off...

I've been having a slack week regarding the dress challenge. This is for a few reasons:
1) I now have to start repeating
2) All of my dresses and skirts are in the dirt laundry and
3) I'm too lazy to sift through and smell test those suckers
4) I have been having trouble sleeping resulting in my being super groggy in the mornings and being rushed

I am still going to make an effort to wear dresses for the rest of the month, and probably more often in general so I consider this challenge to be a success, especially in light of how often I wore dresses prior to this (which is pratically never).

Last summer I played ball hockey with a bunch with some friends and friends of friends at Ritchie Hall. I discovered that I actually realllly love playing ball hockey and I believe I have some serious potential. I don't actually possess any skills, per se. But I am fairly aggressive and I think it surprises the heck out of these dudes. I get frazzled when I actually have the ball in my stick and usually end up passing it to someone on the wrong team. I am going to buy my own stick this weekend and make Tyler teach me some stick handling skilllzz. Tyler is really good at ball hockey. However, he is a complete SHOW OFF. He's all "look at me I'm so fast I'm going to run across the court for no reason to confuse you". Jerk.

I am starting a new challenge this week. The HUNDRED PUSH UP CHALLENGE. I'm actually embarrassed of my lack of upper body strength and need to get serious about improving it.

Practically Perfect Weekend

This weekend was almost perfect. It was seriously so awesome. It is a strong contender for best weekend of the summer, and so early too!!

Saturday a bunch of us gals represented E-Ville and skated in the pride parade. So much fun! The road was pretty crappy so I got lots of good practice dodging cracks and potholes, which will come in handy on the track. I didn't wear a dress/skirt during this. I know, I know. The only one that would have been appropriate I wore to practice on Thursday and that would have meant REPEATING. Don't worry, after skating around downtown for a couple of hours (making sure to check out the 104st block party, why can't we do that every weekend??), and hanging out on Trina's stoop I went home to put on a dress before we went to the baseball game.

You can see a pretty great group shot of us at the game at Trina's blog, The Daily Dress. We all had a little too much fun at the baseball game, and Justine and I continued to have way too much at the Garneau Pub afterwards. We had intended to take our bikes to the 24hr Bike Repair-a-thon but by the time we picked my bike up from my old place it was about 2am and we were in NO SHAPE for a bike ride. Justine went home and I started to walk my bike home but a friendly cab driver insisted on giving me a ride, SCORE! My feet were killing me from wearing my skates for so long that day and walking down and up the giant hill to and from the game that I was pretty relieved to get home.

Sunday morning I got up early, showered, put on a cute Alice in Wonderland dress and then my hangover hit me like a ton of bricks. I crawled back into bed intending on having a short nap before Critical Lass but I ended up sleeping until 5. I was pretty bummed to miss the ride but hopefully another one happens soon! (Maybe every month while the weathers nice... ladies??)

When I finally did get up I was STARVING so I grabbed a neat little art history book I borrowed from Justine (From Bauhaus to Our House... GREAT read so far if you are at all interested in art history or modern architecture) and treated myself to breakfast/lunch/dinner at Da-De-O. Going to resteraunts by myself and reading is one of my favorite things. I went on a  mini adventure afterwards, checking out the new Shoppers Drug Mart (needed face sunscreen badly!!) and got an espresso milkshake from Remedy. By the time I left Remedy I was on the cranky side because it took so long and the clientele in there drive me nuts. But then I convinced Tyler to drive me to Coral and Teds to watch the True Blood premiere! AWESOME! Of course Coral had a great spread out (smokies, asparagus, salad, carrot cake, ice cream coffee, awesome). We had a nice hang out after the show, it was an all-round excellent evening.

DOWNSIDE: I slept so much yesterday I couldn't fall asleep for the life of me and now I'm half asleep at my desk.

TGICFLF (Thank God It's CFL Friday)

I've been extra craving CFL this week, so I went for the medium and actually polished the whole thing off, I was pretty impressed with myself. I think there was the largest group of us at lunch yet! You can see a partial group photo at Ghetto's June Dress blog The Daily Dress. You can also see that I am wearing a cute peasant girl sundress with a thing long sleeved shirt, tube socks and my favorite boots. The only thing better than these boots is when the tops of my striped tube socks stick out. I even had a lady comment on how cute of a look it was today walking through the lobby of the heart center on my way to lunch.

So working at the hospital, I tend to run into to people I know fairly often. Unfortunately it's pretty awkward because they are hardly ever here for a positive reason! Yesterday I saw a distant relative of mine in the food court and... I didn't say hi. Is that horrible of me?? She hardly ever recognizes me when I see her anyway so it would have been an extremely uncomfortable conversation anyway even if it wasn't in the depressing hospital food court while she was having coffee with a friend of hers I worked with in high school and was avoiding eye contact with as well.

I'm very excited to get my bike on the road today! I barely rode it last year because I got my banana seat bike and was really into that for a while. My bamboo is fairly legendary though. If I park it on Whyte Ave drunk people take their pictures with it. I wonder how many random photos of people with my bike are floating around on Facebook and the internet. The best was when my friend found a random photo of me riding it by the Cosmopolitan Music Society on a strangers flickr. Oh how I miss Bambooey!

My outfit today is very "mod" I noticed, while checking myself in shop windows on my way to work:O
I'm wearing a brightly colored mock turtle neck dress with a colorful geometric pattern and my FAVORITE brown knee high boots (with my favorite burgundy tights from yesterday). I never wear this dress anymore because it is just too short to be a winter dress and just too thick of material to be a spring.summer dress. But it's working well in this weeks schizophrenic weather. It has very girly cap sleeves on it which means Tyler hates it because it is one of my dresses with "poofy sleeves".

The boots: My boots are fucking awesome. I bought these plainish brown leather riding style boots a million years ago. A few years ago I was falling out of love with them and I decided to use them for my Hawk Girl costume. I taped them up with masking tape and spray painted them bright red. After halloween I took all the tape off and some of the paint had bled through and the tape had stressed the leather and they LOOKED FUCKING AWESOME. Now they are my favorite boots. My mom called them "ruined" I called them "IMPROVED".

Another day, another dress.

Today my dress is black (again) with sheer 3/4 sleeves and ruffles and brass (actually plastic) buttons in the front. I'm realizing more and more how I tend to buy items that are virtually identical to ones I already own. I am wearing my favorite tights today too. They are a deep burgundy and super opaque which makes me feel less akward about my skirt blowing up while I walk to work.
I had to wear my office clogs to work in the rain today, but I have my black leather riding boots here to change into when my feet dry. (Which I also have in brown, WTF? All my clothes are the same)

Tonight are travel team try outs, which is really exciting because I can't wait to see what our team looks like for the Rat City game... which unfortunately the weekend of Sled Island so no Les Savy Fav for me, once again! *sigh*

6.08.2010

I found my office clogs, and accidentally wore them home. I hate it when I do that because they are pretttty hideous and I actually had a pretty killer dress/boot combo on today.
Speaking of dresses, my friend Trina started a blog documenting our 30 days of dresses. She has pictures though! Plus the girl can dress!

Day #7 Long black dress that's way to warm to be wearing in June.

So because of my determination to not repeat dresses for as long as possible (my goal is the 15th), I am wearing one of my "winter dresses". This dress was one of my go-to museum outfits when I was working there and had to take the bus as it has 3/4 length sleeves, a high neck, goes just to my knees and is made of thick cotton. The only issue with this dress is the skirt is very, very flowy. This + windy Saskatchewan Drive walk to work means I had to be sure I wore a very opaque set of tights underneath. So now I am suffocating in my heavy garments. I'm boiling!!

Another point of complaint: I'm wearing boots that have only been worn a couple of times and they are not broken it AT ALL and I can't find my "office clogs" so I'm stuck in them, wahhhh!!

I haven't been to non-travel team practice in weeks. I'm just waiting for someone to give me a talking to!

Day #6: Another purple dress! Holy!

Apparently I have a lot of purple skirts/dresses. No repeats yet!!

I do have a confession. I didn't wear a skirt or a dress yesterday. But to be fair I was only up for about 10 hrs and the only time I left my house was for a roller skate. Plus it was Sunday. LEAVE ME ALONE.

As usual, I was super drained from our game on Saturday. Man being a champion sure is exhausting! The Eves were excellent opponents, though we maintained a lead for most of the game it was anything but easy!! I was sure at any moment Crimson Reign would have a 30 pt jam and they would take it. Thankfully we kept that from happening!! I am definitely not used to getting knocked down as much as I did!

Day #4: Skirt-alls? (Overall skirt?) with my old E-Ville Dead Jersey

Todays installment of wear a dress/skirt everyday in June is inspired by our game against Victoria tonight!
(Tickets still available at the door!)

I have been keeping myself occupied with Glee all day but the past hour I have just been pacing waiting for my ride. Eeee! Exciting. I've been eating good food and drinking tons of water, since I will be jamming a ton this game (which is unusual for me for a travel team game).

Day #3 Purple 50's style dress with small grey polka dots.

Today is "CFL Friday".
Every Friday I grab lunch at Chicken For Lunch in Scotia Place with some of my lady friends. This is my favourite day of the week and it is always a huge struggle to go back to work afterwards. I occasionally give in, or go for a bit of shopping before I come back but I have been trying to ditch the habit since I'm not getting paid while I'm bra shopping with Trina or walking the Halen to her office.
There were 3 of us today that are doing the Dress Month challenge! We took a cute a picture, but you'll have to take my word for it. We all ate some salty hot and dry chicken and now we are all pretty thirsty too!

I am really looking forward to "Critical Lass" on June 13th. It is the perfect blend of bike month and dress month!

Tomorrow is the E-Ville Dead game vs. the Eve's of Destruction. It's going to be an amazing game, I can feel it!

6.03.2010

Day # 2: Purple pleated skirt, white button up, grey cardigan.

Working for cheap people is really frustrating.

I am really excited for our game this weekend. First game with Coach Pauly. Dee's first travel team game since she's been back. Last time we played Victoria was seriously the worst game I have ever played. Ever. It's been a long time and I am a lot lot lot better now, so I feel like I have something to prove!

6.02.2010

I love a challenge..

So I am supposed to wear a dress/skirt everyday in June with some friends. Yesterday I was not off to a good start. I completely forgot! So my month starts today and will extend into July 1st. I will try to document my outfits this month and I will probably have to buy a few more items in the next couple of weeks. I won't have photos like some other gals though! You'll have to make due with descriptions.

Today I am wearing a black and white pencil skirt with a white shirt with a bow on it. I totally forgot to put on my white bow headband but that might have been cuteness overload.

Also I am wearing my only dress appropriate shoes and they suck.  Next Friday is cheap clothes shopping day! Expect to see me in sneakers and dresses for the next week.
